Things to know before you use it

Enlarging a small image cannot recreate missing detail and may make the result look soft or pixelated.

Resize for the destination, not for an arbitrary percentage

Reducing dimensions removes pixels and usually cuts file size substantially. The right dimensions depend on where the image will be used: a small web logo does not need the resolution of a camera original.

Aspect-ratio locking helps prevent stretching. If exact width and height requirements have a different ratio from the source, decide whether to crop or accept empty space rather than distorting the image.

Before you rely on the result

  • Know the required output dimensions.
  • Preserve aspect ratio unless distortion is intentional.
  • Compare visible quality and byte size.
